Power Expanders (PWX-1 and PWX-D20) "Plug and Play" Power Relays (No electrical wiring required!) The Solatel Power Expander Model PWX-1 allows the user to add additional loads to a controller (such as the Plant Pro controller). Each expander adds up to an additional 15 amps capacity. In a typical application these might be additional 1000 W horticultural lamps. Of course, each Power Expander must be plugged into outlets that are on a different circuit breaker than the controller or other Power Expanders, (typical household circuit breakers are limited to 15 - 20 amps each). So you must have available separate circuit breakers in your house's electrical system for the Plant Pro and for each Power expander you plan to install. Power Expanders have two electrical cords; a power cord and a "trigger" (signal) cord. The power cord supplies the load's power and plugs into the above mentioned separate circuit breaker. The trigger cord supplies the signal from the controller (or other Power Expanders - they can be chained together) that tells the Power Expander to turn on. Complete details on Power Expander operation are available in the PWX-1 or PWX -D20 instruction manuals. The PWX-D20 is similar in appearance and operation to the PWX-1 except that the PWX-D20 delays 20 seconds before turning on its loads once a trigger signal has been received from a trigger source (a controller or another Power Expander). This is desirable when there are two or more heavy loads (such as 1000 W lamps), preventing them from being all turned on at once, thus avoiding excessive surge currents that can load down the line. Thus all loads are turned on smoothly with a 20 second delay between each load controlled by a PWX-D20 Power Expander. See the PWX-1 or PWX-D20 instruction manuals for complete details. Back
